The most common reason for being credit checked is that you have applied for a loan or a credit. This may be for example, in connection with consumer loans, insurance, a new electricity supplier or entering into agreements on purchases on installment payments. When one of our customers performs a credit check on you in Experian's database, you as a private individual will automatically receive a notification letter. The letter contains information about who has conducted the credit check, with the contact information for the company, as well as a copy of the information provided. It is important that you contact the company that did the credit check directly if you are not familiar with why the credit check has been performed.
It is our customers who make the decisions. It can vary from place to place depending on a customer's credit policy, and the risks they want to take in connection with granting the credit. In some industries, there may be a higher risk of default, which makes it easier to be rejected than in industries where there is a lower risk associated with granting credit. This also means that it can vary which variables can have an impact on a credit score.

Credit reference agencies are not allowed to use the National Registry as a first-hand source to register new persons. Our primary source for registering social security numbers is therefore the tax assessment. This means that if you have not had taxable income in Norway within the last three public tax years, you will not automatically be registered with us. If you still need to be credit assessed, you can contact our consumer service on phone 815 55 420 from Monday - Friday 9am-11pm. If you do not have the opportunity to contact us by phone, you can of course contact us via Digipost.
A credit rating is an analysis of the applicant's overall ability to pay. This analysis is done by a business (e.g., a bank) ordering credit information about you from a credit reporting agency. For example, the bank will usually credit check you before it gives you a credit card or grants you a loan. If you have payment remarks, too low income or too large a loan (or a combination of these), you risk a higher interest rate on the loan or that it will not be granted. The information is only disclosed to recipients who have a legitimate need for the information in connection with the assessment of your ability to pay. A business will usually have a legitimate need to check your ability to pay if you want to shop on credit, enter a repayment agreement or want to take out a new subscription, which means that you pay after receiving the item or service.

Blocking for credit information is often the most effective way to prevent identity theft.
This means our customers cannot retrieve credit information about you, which in turn can make it difficult to obtain credit in your name, such as subscribing or taking out loans. A credit block can also be used to limit own consumption.

A payment remark occurs when we receive reports of unpaid debt collection cases, disbursement transactions, debt settlement or bankruptcy on you as an individual (or company). When a case has gone to debt collection, you will be sent a payment request. If you do not pay this, legal action may be taken, and a payment remark will be reported to the credit reporting agencies.
When a payment remark is reported to us, it will appear in our credit check solutions 30 days after the registration date (except for payment remarks on disbursement transactions) has been registered in the public register). At the same time as the case is registered in the database, a letter will be sent to the person concerned with information about the payment remark and the date on which the remark will become visible to our customers.
The warning letter contains information about the type of case in question, as well as information about the company that has reported the case to us. If you have any questions regarding the claim, you must contact the relevant debt collection agency/counsel directly, as they have all the documentation about the case.
For private individuals:
A payment remark can be reported to credit information agencies for registration 30 days after legal action. By legal action meaning that the case is sent to a legal authority for processing. If the debtor has entered into a repayment agreement with the debt collector and fails to keep this agreement, the case can be reported to the credit information agencies immediately.
Payment remarks registered on sole proprietorships follows the same rules as for persons.

For companies:
A payment remark can be reported 30 days after the payment request is sent from the debt collector.
A case cannot be submitted for registration if the claim is disputed. This applies to both individuals and companies. If a judgment is rendered in a case, a remark cannot be registered if the claim is settled within the court's stipulated deadline.
A Payment remark is deleted from Experian's register when we receive a notice of deletion from collection agencies or public registers.
A Payment remark that has not been settled may be listed for 4 years from the date of registration in our database. The exception is encumbrances registered in a public register. The payment remark can remain registered with us if it is still registered in the public registry. It is important to say that the time the payment remark is registered with us can be extended if a new legal action is taken or if the registered encumbrance is not deleted.
If you believe that the case which has a payment remark has been repaid and should be closed, you must contact the collection agency / instance that processes the claim as they must send out notification of deletion.

If a payment remark has the status deleted in the historical part of the access report on MinExperian, it means that it has been deleted from our credit information database and will not be visible to our customers by a credit check of you in our database. It will not have an impact on the calculation of your current credit score.
We receive tax assessment figures from the Tax Authorities when these are published.
The items used from the tax assessment are net wealth, ordinary income and assessed tax. The ordinary income that appears in the equation is a net amount where deductible expenses and other expenses are deducted from the gross amount, and the ordinary income will therefore differ from your gross income.

Credit scoring is method businesses use to check for customers/potential customers' ability to pay. The method uses statistics to predict a customer's financial behavior and is based on both past and current behavior. Among other things, it will say something about:

  • the probability of repayment of credit issued.

  • risk of default on credit (ability to pay)

  • the likelihood of customer churn

  • profit increase/decrease

Credit scoring is in many cases part of the credit giving process and additional information is in many cases considered before making a final decision. It usually depends on both the product being applied for, the applicant's credit score and the practices the company that provides the credit itself follows, as well as which laws apply to the company based on what industry they are in and what products they deliver.
A scoring model is used to systemize credit scoring. The different models calculate the degree of risk associated with granting credit. The basis for scoring varies from model to model, but especially in a credit context, it is common for the model to say something about the probability of defaults on credit.
A scoring model contains several variables that together provide the most predictable information. The scoring model ranks customers on a scale from most likely to least likely to service their loans.
Our information is objective, and it is up to our customers whether they grant or reject an application, our scoring model gives the company a recommendation. It is always the company that has conducted a credit check that alone decides whether potential customers should be accepted or not, and the credit check done with us is only intended as an indicative factor in the decision-making process. If you want an individual assessment, direct contact must be made with the company that performs a credit check and cannot be done with us.
